Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Begin by hulling and slicing the fresh strawberries to prepare them for cooking.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook until the strawberries become soft and start releasing their juices.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the strawberry compote while stirring constantly.
  5. Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the filling thickens. Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool before using.
