Description

Sausage and gravy biscuits are a classic breakfast dish featuring flaky homemade biscuits smothered in rich sausage gravy, perfect for lazy weekends or special brunch gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of milk until just combined, being careful not to over-mix.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it for a few seconds. Roll out to about 1 inch thick and cut into biscuits.
  5. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  6. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked.
  7. Add 1/4 cup of flour to the cooked sausage to create a roux, mixing well.
  8. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk until smooth, stirring continuously.
  9. Cook the gravy until it thickens to your desired consistency, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  10. Serve the biscuits topped generously with the sausage gravy.

Notes

Serve warm with fried eggs or fresh fruit for a complete breakfast. Store biscuits and gravy separately; biscuits at room temperature for up to 2 days and gravy in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
