Description

A simple, flavorful dish that turns firm tofu into a crispy, savory delight with a garlicky, gingery marinade.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the block in a clean towel and place a weight on top for 10–15 minutes. Then cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and pepper. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and gently toss to coat. Let the tofu sit for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu cubes and toss lightly to coat. Heat 2–3 tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add tofu in a single layer and fry for about 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
  4. Transfer the tofu to a serving plate and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve hot.

Notes

Serve over steamed rice or noodles, or add to a grain bowl with roasted vegetables.
