- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup lemon juice
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, and 1/2 cup melted butter. Stir until smooth.
- Add 1 cup flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir until combined.
- Pour the batter into the greased baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup lemon juice, the zest of 1 lemon, and the remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Pour the lemon mixture over the batter.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
- Allow to cool slightly for 10-15 minutes before serving. Spoon both cake and sauce onto each plate.
Notes
Serve warm or room temperature. Top with ice cream, whipped cream, or powdered sugar. Garnish with lemon zest or slices for presentation.
