These small, chewy, and salty pretzel bites combine whole wheat flour and protein powder for a nutty flavor, making them perfect for a quick breakfast or post-workout snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cups water (for boiling)
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and honey in a bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Mix whole wheat flour, protein powder, and salt in a large bowl; pour in the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  6. Boil 8 cups of water with baking soda in a large pot.
  7. Shape the dough into small pieces and form pretzel bites.
  8. Boil each pretzel bite for about 30 seconds; remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 10–12 minutes or until deep golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly on a rack before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with various dips or toppings like avocado, yogurt, honey mustard, or nut butter. These bites can be stored for a few days at room temperature, longer in the fridge, and frozen for up to 2 months.
