Description

A warm and comforting soup that combines tender split peas with savory beef ham and a medley of vegetables. Ideal for chilly days and easy to prepare in the Instant Pot.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup split peas
  • 1 pound beef ham, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas under cold water and drain.
  2. Turn the Instant Pot to ‘Sauté’ mode. Add the diced beef ham and cook until browned, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables soften.
  4. Add the split peas, beef broth, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.
  5. Close the lid and set the Instant Pot to ‘Soup’ mode for 15 minutes.
  6. Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then quick release any remaining pressure. Carefully remove the bay leaf, stir the soup, and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Notes

For a creamer texture, puree a portion of the soup with an immersion blender. You can also add herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.
