Description

These cake-like chocolate donuts topped with a sweet-tart fresh strawberry glaze are a simple and joyful treat, perfect for breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients: buttermilk, oil, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients gently until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the donuts in the pan for 3-5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze, puree the fresh strawberries and mix with powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth.
  9. Dip the cooled donuts in the glaze, letting excess drip off, and let set for 10-15 minutes before serving.
