Description

A cozy and family-friendly casserole that combines the flavors of cheeseburgers and French fries into one cheesy bake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 2432 ounces Frozen French Fries
  • 2 cups Cheese (sharp cheddar and Colby Jack or American cheese slices), shredded or sliced
  • 1 Yellow Onion, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Beef Broth
  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk
  • 1/4 cup Pickle Relish (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, extra pickles, chopped green onion

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Gather and measure all ingredients. Dice the yellow onion and mince the garlic.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add minced garlic, salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings. Stir and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in ketchup, yellow mustard, beef broth, whole milk, and pickle relish (if using). Simmer for 2–3 minutes to thicken.
  4. Arrange half of the frozen French fries in the prepared baking dish. Spoon the beef mixture over the fries, then sprinkle half of the cheese over the beef. Add the remaining fries and top with the remaining cheese.
  5. Bake for 30–40 minutes, until fries are golden and cheese is bubbly. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with desired toppings.

Notes

For an extra crunchy top, broil the casserole for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking. Use 80/20 beef for better flavor and ensure to drain excess grease for optimal texture.
