Description

Elegant tarts featuring sweet caramelized onions, tangy goat cheese, and flaky puff pastry, perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 ounces goat cheese, crumbled
  • Fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Peel and thinly slice the onions. Roll out the puff pastry to fit your tart pan and prick the base with a fork.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, sugar, salt, and pepper, stirring to coat.
  3. Cook the onions until soft and jam-like, about 20-25 minutes. Spread them evenly over the pastry and sprinkle with goat cheese and thyme. Brush pastry edges with egg wash.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes until pastry is golden and cheese melts. Cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

For a crisper bottom, bake on a preheated baking sheet. Adjust onion layer thickness to prevent sogginess.
